Nanny Cottage, Laytown, County Meath

26th Feb 2012

Laytown Cottage is at the mouth of the river Nanny in Laytown. This is probably one of the most photographed cottages in Ireland.  I spotted this family enjoying some time out here, and thought it might make for a nice photo, rather than the cottage on its own.  This was formerly the coastguards cottage.

On the prom at Laytown, County Meath.

Had planned a trip to the Wicklow mountains this morning to get a shot at the Upper Lake, but it was frosty so I decided to stay closer to home.

This stunning 6 foot bronze sculpture, is called "Voyager" and is inspired by the ocean and all that is in it.  It was designed by artist Linda Brunker.  It was unveiled in 2004.

If you look closely, you can see two tiny ships on the horizon  :)

"Mum, look at the moon !! You must get a photograph".
My ten year old son, Annraoi was anxious that I captured the lovely moon that evening as we drove home from school.  However, it was dinnertime, and no dinner on the table.  Hmmm..... I threw my stuff into the car and made a quick trip out to the Boyne Estuary at Mornington, and then headed a few kilometres further up along the coast to Laytown where I took this shot of the moon and "Voyager". Home again before 6, and all fed and happy within the hour..
